A New Business Venture!

It can be incredibly difficult for Ugandan people to find suitable employment, to support themselves and their families. Corruption, injustice, and poor wages and conditions in the employment market, create many challenges for skilled and hard working people who need jobs.

Our vision in business is to empower people so they can generate income and create a sustainable future for themselves, their families and their nation in an ethical way. The Kampala to Entebbe expressway has been a great aid to commuter travel in Uganda. It is Uganda’s first toll road, connecting the capital city of Kampala to Entebbe International Airport and the urban centre of Entebbe.

We are thrilled to introduce our new venture – a 14 seater minibus taxi service connecting Entebbe to Kampala.

As there are no trains, and many Ugandans don’t own cars, minibus taxis are one of the most convenient ways to travel, for both work and leisure. Many minibus taxis take the longer route, along poor quality, bumpy roads, with congested traffic. However, for a small extra cost, commuters can choose an express taxi, which can easily halve their journey time, and even more in the rush hour. In addition, the expressway taxis are properly licensed and regulated to a much higher standard than other public transport options, giving the customer greater safety and comfort on their journeys.

This reliable and popular mode of transport not only meets the travel needs of the people, but will also provide much needed employment for trustworthy drivers and money collectors, whom we know personally. This is a great opportunity to also benefit our non profit work.

To make this vision a reality, we have a fundraising goal of £14,000 / $17,000. This will enable us to buy a high quality used vehicle and to cover the initial set up and licensing costs. Long term sustainability is our goal, so that by God’s grace, we leave a Kingdom legacy in Uganda for the next generation!

IMPORTANT FIVE YEAR MILESTONES

These are our business goals for the next five years:

YEAR ONE: The NGO will become self sustaining as an organisation, covering staff wages and volunteer expenses for five team members, plus other essential administrative costs. We will tithe the first 10% of the profit to local churches and christian ministries. We will also create a savings pot with a further 10% of the profit, to use for future investment.

YEAR TWO: In addition to the above, the NGO will increase the training opportunities and remuneration for its staff and volunteers, to take our team to the next level.

YEAR THREE: The NGO will invest in a further business project of small scale farming.

YEARS FOUR & FIVE: The current businesses will be well established, giving sufficient profits to invest in further staff training and development, and to employ more volunteers.

Business Plan

In Uganda an investment of £14,000 / $17,000 goes much further than it would in a western nation.

  • We will employ three people to operate the taxi on a rota basis, with much better than average working hours, pay and conditions, which equates to financial security for three families.
  • Our taxi will be well maintained and operate in a safe and efficient manner, with drivers receiving extra training where necessary, giving commuters confidence that their journeys are in good hands.
  • Profits from the taxi business will enable us to reward and invest in our existing five NGO staff and volunteers, and give the NGO long term sustainability.
  • In total, this business will support three new employees, plus five current NGO employees, hence improving the lives of eight families in our community.
  • Local churches and christian ministries will benefit from the tithes from our business.
  • Through saving and investing some of the profits from the taxi business, we will be able to start a second business in year three, thereby creating more employment opportunities for local people in future.
  • Donating to this project will be a catalyst, to help us generate more income, and for our Ugandan NGO to be self sustaining for many years to come.

The ripple effects will also benefit us personally. Up until now we have been employed by the NGO as volunteer missionary workers, living by faith, and receiving no wages for our work. A sustainable business for the NGO will enable the organisation to pay us expenses, to cover some of the basic costs we incur in the course of our work in Uganda.

We believe that God intends to finish what He started in Uganda, and that the NGO will continue to be fruitful, long after our personal work here is over. Long term sustainability is our goal, so that by God’s grace, we leave a Kingdom legacy in Uganda for the next generation! Your donations will bring us closer to a future where the NGO is able to continue its vital work for many years to come.
